SANCTIFIED SUNDAY: HOLY FAMILY

Hello my dearly beloved readers, hope everyone is making good use of this festive season. Taking out time to have all the fun the other months of the year do not permit, going for different events, carrying out all the fun activities your body permits and most of all, taking time out to visit family and friends. Speaking of family, the sermon today was mind blowing and I thank God for our new priest who dishes out his sermons without prejudice, he doesn't care what you think, he is blunt and says it as it is. He gave a lovely sermon and I cannot wait to share it with you all.

For my outfit today, nothing major, I just decided to go native and rock the new purse my lovely friend got for me. You know when you have a lovely outfit in mind and your tailor just messes it up (please bear in mind that this is not finesse couture, this is some other tailor), yeah, that’s what happened with this dress but there’s nothing I can do, as cloth costs money and I have to wear it.

MERRY CHRISTMAS IN ARREARS

Hello my lovely people. How are you enjoying the season? Hope you all went to church yesterday.
My sis and I had a small lunch thing at the house yesterday and it was a blast. There was everything to eat. From Potato wedges with tartar sauce and stewed gizzard, to fried rice and chicken (of course), special fried rice and shredded beef in green pepper sauce to ice cream mixed with diced pineapple in a pineapple cup (all homemade) to a lot of drinks and after all these you wouldn’t believe that I was so caught up in the moment that I forgot to take pictures of all the food. The company was great and we all had a great laugh. Just made me realize how grateful I am to God for the gift of life, love, laughter, family and good friends.

FAYROUZ: LE ORIGINAL

Okay so I got invited impromptu by a wonderful friend of mine to the Fayrouz L’original (Hope I got that right) event 2 nights ago. I asked O “what kind of event is it so I can know how to dress” and the response was “nothing serious, it’s just a show that has some musicians performing” and since I don’t like to over dress for music events when I know I would probably dance, I went casual.

Omo my dear brothers and sisters as I got there, I was in awe, in shock, in fact I was flabbergasted, bewildered and overwhelmed (Yes I own a dictionary). You need to see babes, Sequins evening gown things with sky high shoes, honestly everyone was dressed for an occasion, I on the other hand was dressed for a campus show (covers face).  I took one look at my friend and he was speechless. But as a correct babe that doesn't give a @#4@, I walked in there with my shoulders higher than everyone else.

Trust me, it did not end there, he handed me my VVIP pass. Now with this pass, you get something that looks like dollars but it was called the Rouz and then use it to buy “small chops” and cocktails. Now their idea of “small chops” was Chinese with dessert. I honestly must be living in a different realm because where I come from, small chops means Puff Puff, Mosa, springroll, samosa and if you are lucky, gizzard and/or snail. Hmm I did not waste time o, I made sure I swallowed a full plate of my “small chops” if you know what I mean *Wink*. The cocktails all had a touch of fayrouz and might I say, they were really nice.

The Rouz. Creative huh... I really like (would anyone die if naira looked like this?)

SURVIVING LAGOS : EPISODE II

Hey Y'all and welcome to another episode of the surviving Lagos series. Hope you can relate. Enjoy

2. Be yourself: Please know that being yourself is the one and only thing you should be. You don’t want to be known as a fake person. Do you all realize that being someone else is really tiring and difficult because know this WHAT YOU START YOU MUST FINISH. Back in secondary school when you are rude to a senior student they would tell you amidst killing you o “you are feeling rude, feel rude to the end”.

SURVIVING LAGOS: EPISODE I

Lagos, the cosmopolitan city of West Africa. The city is alive with bright lights, sky scrapers, blaring horns, beautiful beaches, wild night life, crazy parties and most of all INTERESTING PEOPLE.

I moved to this wonderful city 5yrs ago and counting and I must say that in my time here, I have seen things. Things that leave my mouth agape and probably only shut when a fly passes very close to my lips and then I concluded that it is not their fault, I am the local one. You would not understand this unless you live here, frequent here or have visited. This city has people from all works of life from all across the country and the globe. It is the New York of Nigeria. The supposed land of opportunities where who you are would either make you or break you. The city where Emeka in the village would tell his mum “mama, I am moving to Lagos” and her heart almost stops for fear that her son would never return the same. Where Halima tells her dad “Dad, I got admission into the prestigious UNILAG” and his advice would be “don’t go and join all those club girls” (I mean, come on parents, it’s not that bad na haba!!). The hustle and bustle is endless, the people are tireless and the fight to stay relevant is unending. People here probably only rest when dead as the city demands everything from you.

DOING IT LIKE THE 80'S

Hey every one and happy Sunday. I hope you all had a nice time over the weekend seeing as today is Sunday and this means the weekend is over. So to be honest I did not go to church today due to the fact that yesterday was my little niece birthday party and we were all knackered by the wee hours of this morning (you all know that kiddies parties are actually not for the kids but adults right…need I say more). Anyways, my little heartbeat turned 1 over the week and it’s as if she knows what happened because throughout this week she has just been very happy, dancing up and down with her newly acquired feet that she tries to stabilize when she walks…the cutest thing ever. I am really grateful to all my friends that could make it yesterday, you guys are the best.

A REAL SUPER HERO

The sad news hit the world yesterday about the passing of a great man. The world mourns and and also celebrates the legacy he has left behind.

We all grew up watching marvels super heroes. Admiring the passion and love they show for the people and how easy it is for them to forgive but these are all fictional characters. Never were these characters brought to reality than in the life of Nelson Rolihlahla Madiba Dalibunga Mandela. He put Africa on the map and gave us a voice. A man of great valor and a true son of the land. The most influential, revered and loved man in the universe who has numerous monuments, squares, streets and places named after him. He is given many names, the greatest man that lived, the father of freedom, the man of peace, the man of many handshakes. His tall, imposing frame and poise made him appealing but it was his warm smile that carried to his eyes that made him more approachable. I can only imagine his triumphant entry into the kingdom of Heaven. I am sure the hug he would receive from God would be everlasting (yeah I just had to use the word).

LESS APPRECIATED TALENT

Kai I have suffered today walahi!!. I have spent my entire day trying to find a way to upload mp3 files for you people O. There is no question in heaven and on earth I have not asked google. All that was left was for me to type my language into the google search bar to see if anything would come up. Luckily, I found a way to do it. You wouldn't believe that after spending my whole day uploading this, I was just advised by a lawyer that I might get sued. Omo, I don't even want to know the copy wright rules as I don't have cash to dash anyone so y'all have to go find the songs yourselves. Sorry. I am so sad because this means I just wasted my time.

Anyways, without further ado, todays post is about a select few artistes I really like in Nigeria but I feel that they are not as recognized and/or appreciated as they ought to be. I think they should be given more credibility. We are in an Era in the music industry right now where we have a lot of noise makers that create only party jams. I flip through radio stations and hear the same song played on every radio station at the same time but wait a minute; it’s actually not the same song, just a billion songs that sound exactly the same with the same voice, lyrics and beat. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate all genres of music but I am afraid that very soon there would be nothing to listen to in Nigeria other than party jams. So what if I am not at a party and I am in a sober mood, what should I listen to? Kukere? The matter?. If you even see the tittles of the songs sef, Kukere, Limpopo, kereshere, voomva abi na vavavoom, okpekete, skelewu. HIAN!!! In fact when my sister heard voom va abi wetin she said “They have finally insulted our intelligence”. I am not saying these songs should not exist O because we also need them but you people should help us and switch it up a bit na HABA, HABATICALLY!!!. Well as that is what majority of the country would rather listen to, Man must wack.

ITS DECEMBER ALREADY??

Hello Everyone and HAPPY NEW MONTH!!!! Wow how this year flew, I remember everything that happened on my birthday in January. We are eternally grateful to God for his mercies. That we go to bed at night and wake up the next morning and even see a new month is a blessing. I woke up today with the news of Paul Walkers death and I must say that I felt and still feel really sad because I actually liked the guy. The wonderful stars role as Brian O’Connor in the Fast and Furious series contributed to making the movie what it is today. I will never forget the first time I saw him, it was in the movie Into the blues with Tyson Beckford. All I remember was that they were both beautiful eye candy (can’t really remember anything else about the movie). May his soul RIP and may the Lord console his family and friends. News like this always makes me appreciate life more. My daily complaints are “I’m fat”, “I’m getting dark”, “I ate too much last night” and every other thing that doesn't make sense when it should be “I am grateful that I have food enough to eat to even complain Lord” “ I am thankful I can walk, talk, eat, sleep, have a roof over my head, clothes on my back and most of all, I have life”. I thank you lord for the gift of Life and for your ever abundant grace Lord.

IRREGULAR BUSINESS

Hello Everyone. I did not know I would be making this apology so early in my blogging life but I am 1 billion % sorry for going AWOL. I have been under a lot of pressure and so much has happened in the last 5 days that I can’t even believe it myself. So much stress, trips and a whole lot of stuff and the sad part is…. Well let me not say because I am still hopeful and don’t want to dwell on negativity. I got a lot of pings and messages concerning my absence from posting...eehhh!! so una like me like dis. I am really flattered O. To all those that reached out, thank you all, I really appreciate the love and support (head swelling and feeling important sturvs)

With all that has been going on, I have not had enough time for myself but only squeezed out about 3 hours or less of the wee hours of this morning to watch a movie called “Now you see me”. Take it from a movie aficionado and a hopeful movie critic, if you have not seen this movie YOU ARE ON A LONG THING #dbanjvoice. It features an interesting cast, from Mark Buffalo, Morgan Freeman, Woody Harrelson (one of my all time favorites), Isla Fischer and more. The movie is a classic in an era where we have a lot of cliché romance and super hero movies. It transcends in suspense and is gripping as you think you know but then you realize you just do not have a clue. Anyways I don’t want to ruin the movie for you. Just watch it and kindly give me a feedback on your thoughts.

STRIPES AND PATTERNS

Hey Y’all. It’s Friday and I’m sure a lot of you a staring at your clocks, just watching time tick so you can rush out of the office at close of business like kids after school. I know the feeling.

For the look in todays post, I decided to deviate from the norm a bit. I love this baseball big Tee and I have noticed that anytime I see something similar on people, they wear it with shorts or pants so I decided to pair mine with a short skirt. I added the patterned scarf as I love to mix prints and patterns. The shoes were a nice touch as they went well with the scarf. I loved my look, there was something really different about this look. Maybe it’s the scarf or the skirt. Well whatever it was, I loved it.

THE DECADENCE OF OUR NATION

THE PAST: “I know a lot about my country, I know a lot because I care. Nigeria, my beloved country, working together is the key”. Who remembers the days when we used to sing this song and mean it, maybe we really did not know what it meant but we sang it anyways. Who remembers observing or hearing about the ODD number and EVEN number system? This was supposedly implemented to reduce traffic on the road. When this country actually had paper boys that used to deliver news papers door to door. I remember my siblings and I taxing all our relations during Christmas just to save up about N 300 in our socks, we considered ourselves rich if we made up to N 500. This would buy us so much candy and other things we thought important. I remember the Leventis, Wallis ice cream, banana ice cream, dominoes, planta and so many other things.  We used to play in the sand, play “ten ten”, go down the streets on our own and play in our neighbors’ houses without fear of anything but getting hurt. The standard of living was good.

MONOCHROME & NEON

Hello Everyone. How's the Tuesday? Hope you are not sweating it out much at work. I particularly do not like Tuesdays as I feel they are the slowest day of the week. Like the day just goes on forever. I resume work at 8:00 am work for 5 hours, look at my watch and its just like 8:30 am. It might be in my head but I strongly doubt it. Honestly, there is a huge difference between Mondays and Tuesdays. Observe it and tell me if I am hallucinating.

SANCTIFIED SUNDAY: SARI

Hello Everyone. How was your Sunday? I hope great. Sorry this post is coming late, some deities did not want me to post today as the gods of the blogging world were working against me putting up today’s post but I prevailed.

THE HARDEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE

Everyone on earth is going to grow up to be an adult unless God forbid the life span is cut short by some unforeseen evil forces. Not everyone however would grow up to be a “RESPONSIBLE” adult. I mean seriously, we see them around us every day. You know the ones they call AGBAYA, People you come across and you are like “this one too na person (is this one a person?)” or you are like “kai, shey this one that is behaving like an idiot like this would one day be someone’s wife or husband”.

Being a responsible adult is not as easy as it sounds. Believe me, I know how many luxuries I have had to give up over the years just because I need to do something that is considered more important or that would make me look more responsible. I would rather maybe upgrade my shoe game or go on vacations as I love to travel but I have to be frugal as my present life demands it. Gone are the days when what I had to worry about was why my mum would rather sit down in the parlor with our family friends on Sunday afternoon instead of taking my siblings and I to go swimming, or the fact that I did not want to eat what was packed in my lunch box or the fact that I wasn't allowed to play outside sometimes or how to put together the outfit mummy bought (that is IF she allows me o) or of course how my senior neighbor was going to punish and beat the living moonlight out of me for misplacing her uniform. Oh how I wish I could go back to those days. I thought they were serious problems, I would gladly take them back in a heart beat. This is a typical case of “if everyone was called to throw their problems in a pile, you would scramble for yours when you see what others have to contend with”.

SLEEK CHIC

Hey beautiful people. I hope your day is great. As for us here in Lagos, the sun can melt Antarctica. So sorry this post is coming late. I've been under the weather and I'm only just feeling better.

I hope everyone got to see the eclipse. I was so excited because for the first time ever, I really saw it. I literally ran out with a bowl of water and put it under the sun and waited patiently for the reflection of the sun to shine through and when I finally saw it, I was like a child in a candy store jumping up and down in glee and calling all my neighbors to come and see. I even made phone calls to friends and family to make sure they were all seeing it (yeah I can be that excited). I tried to take pictures but they were no good. Well if you didn't get to see it, tough luck. Hopefully you will get to see it next time.

Speaking of eclipse, I was listening to the radio that day (can't remember the exact station) and someone called in and actually greeted "Eku Eclipse". I almost passed out with laughter. My Yoruba brothers and sisters, I give it to you, una sabi greet . Haba!!!!.

SANCTIFIED SUNDAY: ALCATRAZ REJECT

Hey everyone and happy Sunday. I hope you all went to church and not just to go and mark register but you actually participated and danced like David danced to the altar. Today’s sermon was very refreshing as it talked about Gods everlasting mercy and his call to repentance. Talked about how Jesus chose Zaccheaus, a sinner (like you and I) and turned his life around and how Zaccheaus in turn changed his ways. Well this only goes to show that Gods ways are not as we think. He will single you out of the crowd (honestly, Zaccheaus wasn't the only sinner there that day) and turn your sorrow into dancing again, he will lift you up where the world has brought you down and he will definitely put testimonies and songs of joy in your life. Anyways not to sound like a clergy person, I just thought I should share my take home with you. Hope you find it meaningful like I did.

NEW MONTH: SALES SALES SALES !!! ALL BLACK ERRTHANG

Hello Everyone and HAPPY NEW MONTH!!!. Wow, this year did a 100m sprint because I can remember everything that happened in the beginning of this year like it was yesterday.  We have now officially entered “ember” month so its time to start Christmas shopping before prices get inflated, its time to decide where you want to spend Christmas (have no idea where I’m spending mine) and also its time to be extra cautious lest the evil people of the ember season start to show themselves (you all should know what I mean).

Anyways I am very happy today because I went for a very interesting mass (All saints day), it’s the beginning of a new month which means the beginning of positive things to come and most of all it’s the first of the month sales at La Feminic Couture!!!!.

SALES SALES SALES!!! I don’t think anyone loves the word more than I do because it means I can go “gaga going crazy”. La feminic couture stocks the latest trends at ridiculously affordable prices, trust me, this chic knows what’s up. So hurry all down to No. 98 obafemi Awolowo way ikeja, opp MAN  house or access bank. You can also call her on 08032381455/08080323019 or add her on 265B47DA. You won’t regret it.

PICK A POCKET OR TWO

Hey everyone and thank you for stopping by. It was really overwhelming seeing the comments yesterday and I must say I am really motivated to keep up with this (trust me, I have already thought of quitting, very horrible habit). Anyways, you all have put me on the spot with those comments because right now I have to perform. I do hope I can live up to expectations also bearing in mind that I cannot and will not please everybody.

Enough said. I will say this now, I love head pieces, be it a hat, face cap, scarf, something on the head, though I may not always use them. They have a way of adding a little umph to an outfit and make you look a bit more stylish (depending on how you use them though).

IT'S HERE!!!! MY VERY "FIRST" BLABATHON

Hello Everyone I am happy to be writing my very first post. I must say that this has been a long time coming. My decision to start a blog was spurred by my close friends and family who thought it would be a good idea. I on the other hand did not as I suck at anything social media or Internet related (I am not even on twitter).. Well after much thought I decided to go with it so here goes.
